WILIE/WILIA JENKINS

WILIE/WILIA JENKINS
177 - 1830

Wilie/Wilia Jenkins was born c. 1767. His birth location is unknown. He was enumerated as Wilie Jenkins in Amite County in the 1810 Mississippi Territory census with 1 male over 21, 2 white males under 21, 2 white females over 21, 0 white females under 21, 5 total whites, 0 free persons of color, 5 slaves.

On 19 April 1828, Wilie/Wilia Jenkins signed his name "Wilia" in his will in which he named son James, daughter Elizabeth Whittington, and son William. The will was proven 20 September 1830 and located in Amite County Will Book 1, 1818-1848, on pages 95-96.

Wilie/Wilia mentioned an unnamed wife in his will. There is an 1807 marriage record for William Jenkins and Nancy Caffery. Nancy's tombstone is similar to Wilia's and reads, "wife of Wilia Jenkins". Likely Wilia's marriage to Nancy is a later one since son James Jenkins and wife Elizabeth Talbert's marriage record states they married in 1817.

Wilie/Wilia Jenkins' tombstone is found in the William Jenkins Cemetery in Amite County MS. The tombstone reads: "WILIA JENKINS DIED Aug 7, 1830 AGED 63 years".
