Louis LAVERGNE, II, the son of Louis LAVERGNE and Marie Anne SIMON, was born in Québec City on 06 September 1681 and baptized in the parish church of Notre-Dame du Québec. His godparents were Pierre NOLAN and Marguerite LE GARDEUR. He arrived in the Louisiana Colony, probably in the early 1720s, and settled on the Pascagoula River. In March 1725, he was enumerated as a single man living at the Pascagoula settlement.

On 04 July 1725, he married Elizabeth/Isabelle TOMELIN / THOMMELIN / THONMELIN / TOMMELIN / TONMELIN at St. Louis Catholic Church (Cathedral, since 1794) in New Orleans, and, at that time, he was shown as a habitant de Rivière paskagoula [i.e., resident on the Pascagoula River.] Witnesses of the marriage were the bride’s father, Pierre; Jean Baptiste LA PRADE, the groom’s cousin; FLEURIAU, “Procurator General of the Sovereign Council of this Province”; and Lef. BRUSLEZ/BRULE, “resident of this city” [i.e., New Orleans].

Others signing or “making their ordinary marks” were DUPUIS, BLANCHARD, ROSSARD, MORISETTE, and BOURBIAU. Father F. RAPHAEL (d. 1734), a Capuchin Priest and Superior of his order, who officiated at the wedding, identified himself as Curé de la Nlle Orléans et Vicaire Général de Monseigneur l’Évêque de Québec [i.e., parish priest of New Orleans and Vicar General of the Bishop of Québec].

The LAVERGNE couple had at least six children:

• Jean-Baptiste (b. 13 July 1745)
• Marie-Louise, who m. Jean BAR
• Françoise, who m. Jean-Baptiste LEBORNE

Louis LAVERGNE died near present-day Destrehan, St. Charles Parish, Louisiana in April 1750, and his burial was recorded in the register of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in that town on 7 April 1750.
