ALLEN McLAIN

Allen McLain was born 25 December 1775 in Scotland. He was likely the son of Daniel and Sarah McLain. After Daniel McLain died, Sarah likely married Joseph May.

Allen McLain married Naomi Bateman 22 October 1805 in Tennessee, likely Williamson County. They were the parents of 10 children, Eliza Ann McLain, Parker Bateman McLain, Green Berry McLain, Charles Hanes McLain, Mary Campbell McLain, Frances Louisa McLain, Matilda Caroline McLain, Isaac D. McLain, Daniel McLain, and Enoch Bateman McLain.

By 1816, Allen McLain and his family moved to Amite County, Mississippi. Allen McLain is listed in “The Official and Statistical Register of the State of Mississippi”, page 77 by Dunbar Rowland in “Heads of Families” in the 1816 Census of Amite County.

Son Green Berry McLain married Mary Elizabeth McDowell and they were the parents of Robert Smith McLain, who married Rebecca Cox. Allen McLain’s will is found in Amite County, Mississippi Will Book 2, Years 1848-1922. pages 35-36. The will is dated 3 September 1852 and was probated in 1853. His tombstone, located in Roseland Cemetery, Gloster Mississippi, says he died 1n 1855.
